Fine cacao powder from roasted cacao beans. Made by pressing fermented and roasted at 165oC mix of different varieties cacao beans. This is how cacao paste is produced. The cacao butter is extracted from it and the remaining solids are ground to a fine powder.
Roasted cacao has a deep brown colour, bitter taste with a slightly sour aftertaste. It has a stimulating effect and is believed to improve mood.
Use of Roasted cacao powder:
The most popular use of cacao powder is to make a hot chocolate drink with milk and cacao. Other delicious treats are in recipes for shakes, smoothies or muesli. Use to give a deep cacao flavour to cookies, cupcakes, cake trays, brownies, pudding, ice cream and other desserts. Mixed with a sweetener and a little coconut oil, cacao powder makes a great topping. Combine with cacao butter or cacao paste and a variety of nuts to make homemade chocolate. Cacao powder goes well with mint, orange, cinnamon and hot spices. Use cacao powder to make chocolate crepes, muffins, cakes, biscuits, icings and toppings.
