Demerara dark sugar is a type of brown sugar made from sugar cane. The thick syrup extracted in the first phase of sugar cane grinding is dehydrated till large, crunchy caramel-brown coloured sugar crystals are formed. Usually, the more saturated is the colour of the sugar, the higher molasses concentration it has. Demerara brown sugar has sticky consistency and a balanced, dense, sweet taste and a specific aroma of cane molasses. It gives a caramel hue and rich flavour to the dessert recipes.
Use:
For direct consumption. Demerara dark cane sugar is a great alternative to regular white sugar, and can completely replace it in your favourite recipes and in everyday use. Add to different types of toppings or sweeten your hot drinks. Add to dough to make it extra crunchy. Suitable for preparing crumble base for cheesecake, cakes and biscuits.
