The original Pina Colada cocktail originates from Puerto Rico (Caribbean Islands) and contains white rum in its recipe. And the name piña colada (from Spanish) literally means "strained pineapple", which is the other main ingredient in the alcoholic cocktail.
The earliest records of the summer drink date back to the 19th century, when the Puerto Rican pirate Roberto Cofresí prepared it for his crew to lift their spirits.
